Job Description

Summary

The Jackson Laboratory is seeking a Network Engineer who will be responsible for effective planning, provisioning, installation/configuration, security, and operation of the JAX network in a proactive stance; including technologies related to Voice, WAN, LAN, WLAN, and Cloud for communications points across JAX domestic and international locations, thereby ensuring the infrastructure and related support procedures adhere to JAX's organizational values, goals, and security. The network engineer actively engages within the team and organization in a timely, accurate, and professional manner; being cognizant to meticulously track and report activity related to assigned responsibilities in an approved standardized fashion.

The Network Engineer I is a first-level support engineer, serving as the primary user and support interface related to networking issues, and represents the networking team for initial triage, diagnostic, and resolution support; including participation in critical and crisis bridge activities.

Working under supervision, the engineer is provided coaching, mentoring, and scheduling support from a Network Engineer II. Expectations include participating and actively engaging daily with the network & IT support teams.

This is a full-time, onsite opportunity that includes serving as part of the on-call, after-hours rotation. The current rotation schedule is weekly between 5 other team members.

Responsibilities

  • Act as front-line support, taking initial network-related tickets for triage, user engagement, tracking, and resolution; including participation in critical and crisis bridge coordination
  • Document coordinator responsible for the standardization, approval, training, and publication of network team SOP, WI, KB, documentation
  • Establish wired and wireless communications to endpoint devices, including the physical running and termination of associated network lines
  • Create and maintain DDI (DHCP, DNS, IPAM) records accurately related to both internal & external systems
  • Update of configurations related to network equipment, including primary support engineer for the network monitoring system/s
  • Update of configurations related to networking equipment
  • Primary support engineer for the network monitoring system
  • Processing and fulfillment of service tickets for IT support
  • Serve as document coordinator representing the networking team
  • Provide support to other network engineers as assigned
  • Accurately maintain updates and time tracking related to activities as assigned
  • Active participation within teams, projects, and vendors as assigned in a professional, respectful, and open-minded manner
  • Serve as part of the on-call network support rotation after hours

Qualifications

  • Associate degree, or at least 3 years of experience working with network technologies. One of the following certifications (CCNA, ECNA, JNCIA) will be considered a substitute for the associate degree
  • Familiar with PC hardware and software (i.e., LAN's, WAN's), and telecommunication concepts & tools
  • Strong analytical and problem skills, as well as an attention to detail
  • Ability to organize time effectively
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others both verbally and in writing
  • Understanding of zone-based firewall concepts

The salary range is $68,344.00 - $99,098.50. Salary will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
