Job Description

The Reagent Process Development team in Assay R&D are looking for a skilled Bioprocess Scientist. The successful applicant will join a team of experienced scientists at the BS/MS and PhD levels with the goal of supporting development of protein-based reagents for diagnostic testing applications. The successful applicant will be capable of connecting customer product requirements with material specifications and manufacturing goals. The focus of responsibility will be on development of new biologics upstream processes for antibodies and recombinant protein antigens in both microbial and mammalian systems. Areas include, but are not limited to, cell line development, process scale-up with various bioreactor technologies and scales, and production of tissue culture fluids for new product development teams.

What you will be doing:

  • You will work closely with project teams to develop manufacturing processes for antibodies and recombinant proteins for new products.
  • You will be integral to IDEXX's novel antibody development platform from transient transfections to building stable cell lines and producing materials at a wide range of scales.
  • You will utilize scale-down and pilot plant scale bioreactors to develop processes and manufacture materials to support new development activities.
  • You will implement Process Analytical Techniques to understand and control growth and production process.
  • You will use design of experiments (DOE) methodology to guide design of statistically rigorous experiments.
  • You will effectively support and communicate with new product development and product support teams.
  • You will follow company standards for record keeping to support regulatory filings and design history documentation.
  • You will manage inventory and maintain freezer and databases for tracking materials.
  • You will discuss and present results to small teams as well as larger departmental and company audiences.

What you will bring:

  • BS with 5+ years or Master's Degree with 3+ years experience with a Biochemistry, Cell biology, Biotechnology, Biological Engineering or similar degree.
  • Well-versed in cell culture propagation and a good understanding of cellular growth kinetics desired.
  • Basic understanding of upstream and downstream processes desired.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in information management, LIMS systems/databases, and GLP/GMP environments are a plus.
