Job Description

The Qualitative Analyst II will directly support the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and Operational Risk Management (ORM) program and will contribute to the development and ongoing support of Simmons Bank risk management programs. This position offers a growth and development opportunity for a candidate that seeks to acquire broad exposure across the enterprise. The incumbent will have high visibility and frequent interaction with senior/executive management which requires excellent oral and written communication skills, and professional demeanor. Strong interpersonal skills are essential in building relationships with risk management and line of business partners across Simmons Bank to drive a strong risk culture.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Engage with Business Units and support function leaders to complete an annual assessment of Risk Appetite
  • Monitor components of risk appetite against aggregated risk profile
  • Document and maintain policies, procedures, processes and internal controls related to the ERM and ORM program and policy
  • Develop goals, processes, controls, and document risk exposures through quarterly risk assessments
  • Assist the Business Units to develop internal ORM Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) and Risk Appetite Metrics (RAMs) and provide effective challenge
  • Contribute to the knowledge, training, and development of KRIs and RAMs in the Business Units / Functional Areas
  • Contribute and ultimately lead the scenario analyses efforts that identify top and emerging risks specific to Simmons Bank
  • Maintain the library of scenario analyses and develop a process with controls for periodic documentation and distribution of the whitepapers
  • Collaborate with team members in ERM and ORM
  • Support development and ongoing maintenance of departmental risk management tools; effectively utilize tools to produce and distribute fully accurate key risk reporting and consistently evaluate tools for enhancement
  • Remain current with enterprise and operational risk regulatory guidance and industry best practices via public domain, industry-specific organizations, and internal contacts
  • Drive program enhancements in line with regulatory expectations and industry practices
  • Recognize/recommend process improvement opportunities and support implementation of solutions
  • Use quantitative/qualitative approaches, techniques, and/or methodologies to formulate optimal solutions to complex opportunities
  • Operational loss data event capture and solid understanding of data integrity / lineage
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

Skills

  • Thorough understanding of risk concepts
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Inquisitive nature, resourcefulness, and ability to seek out information
  • Ability to work independently in a changing environment with shifting priorities
  • Ability to manage multiple projects under tight timelines
  • Prior experience with eGRC platforms desired

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelors preferred in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics or other related field
  • Advanced degree such as PhD, MS, or MBA is preferred
  • 2+ years relevant experience in the financial services or related industry with responsibilities related to risk management or oversight required
  • Strong leadership skills required to interact with more senior team members and executives
  • Understanding of enterprise and operational risk, related control frameworks and practices (such as COSO), and regulatory requirements is highly desirable
  • Critical thinking, quantitative analysis, and excellent communication skills
  • Prior risk management experience highly desirable especially in coaching, mentoring, and teaching across the enterprise

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

FRM or CFA a plus

Other Qualifications (including physical requirements)

Interaction both within the department as well as with various levels of management and other associates

Extensive personal contact with others and can be of a sensitive and confidential nature
