JOB TITLE: Leave Advisor

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The Leave Advisor will be responsible for processing and administering leave requests and accommodations that arise under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and leaves associated with state/local leaves laws, as well as short-term or long-term disability plans.
Managing the full leave process working directly with employees and managers for medical, FMLA and personal leaves of absence providing the appropriate paperwork to be completed by the treating physician and making Leave request determinations based on documentation received.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Senior Leaves Manager

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
* Primary point of contact for Leave requests from employees, field administrators, and operations leaders
* Own the full leave management process (continuous and intermittent), end to end, from the employee's initial notice through the return-to-work release including gathering and responding to all required paperwork, determining Leave eligibility, designating leave as FMLA-qualifying, requesting medical certification and recertification when needed
* Manage execution of state and federal leave programs, where applicable
* Maintain reasonable communication with employees regarding their need for leave and/or modified work schedules; ensure that employees are aware of their responsibilities in the leave process and documentation needed from the time of initial leave request and throughout the life of leave in the event there are any changes to the amount of time needed to be out of work
* Work with managers and employees on the coordination of leave laws with paid time off, worker's compensation, and short and long-term disability benefits, when applicable
* Work with managers of employees requesting or out on a leave regarding the leave status, collaborating regarding any modified work schedules request; and providing timesheet entry information to ensure related time entries are accurately documented to appropriate paid time off programs are applied
* Partner with HRBP, managers, and Workers Compensation teams as appropriate on the return-to-work process for employees returning from extended FMLA, worker's compensation, or other leaves
* Manage other leave requests, which may include accommodation requests under the ADA and coordination with employee relations to insure related interactive process is followed
* Administer other available time-off programs to align with company policy or applicable laws
* Draft and/or recommend revisions to company leave policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations
* Maintains accurate records of leave and accommodation requests, generates reports from HRIS and vendor systems to ensure the most accurate data is being recorded
* Preserve confidentiality of employee medical documentation and files
* Remain knowledgeable and aware of all applicable leave and accommodation laws including FMLA, ADA, and various state and local law changes

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
* 3-5 years managing FMLA leave claims and ADA accommodations
* Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field preferred
* Two years of human resource experience required
* PHR or PHR-CA certification a plus
* Completion of specialized certification or training on FMLA/leave administration a plus
* Knowledge and experience managing California state leave programs including CFRA (California Family Rights Act), PFL (Paid Family Leave), and PDL (Pregnancy Disability Leave

KNOWLEDGE:
* Extensive knowledge of the leave requirements and other legal protections afforded by the FMLA, USERRA, ADA, and other applicable laws
* Experience with leave principles, practices, procedures, and documentation
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
* Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
* Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
