Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Technician or Junior Electrical Engineer specializing in Test and Measurement (T&M) to provide support for TEVET's system integration and product development. The position will play a critical role in the assembly of TEVET's modular Software-Defined Instrument (SDI) products and ensuring the accurate and reliable testing and measurement of TEVET's RF modular SDI products and components. The Jr. Electrical Engineer will have additional duties supporting electrical hardware design activities.

Both roles will play a pivotal role in ensuring the highest standards of quality, precision, and compliance with AS9100D or ISO 9001:2015 quality management systems in our RF testing and measurement processes. You will be responsible for assembling TEVET's SDI products, conducting tests, maintaining equipment, and documenting results with strict adherence to established TEVET quality control procedures.

All applicants must be U.S. citizens. Proof of citizenship will be required upon hiring. A current and active Secret security clearance, or the ability to obtain one, is mandatory for this position. Candidates with an existing Secret clearance are highly preferred. The ability to obtain and maintain the required security clearance is a condition of employment.

Job Summary

Major Purpose: The Electrical Technician or Jr. Electrical Engineer specializing in test and measurement will be performing accurate, efficient, and adaptable RF testing and measurement tasks. The position will play a crucial role in ensuring that the TEVET SDI systems and devices meet performance specifications and quality standards in a dynamic and rapidly evolving RF technology environment.

Objective: The primary objective of position is to ensure the accurate and reliable testing and measurement of radio frequency (RF) systems, components, and devices. The Jr. Electrical Engineer will also be responsible for electrical hardware design activities.

Function: The function of a Technician is to perform a variety of tasks related to assembly, testing, measuring, and analyzing RF systems, components, and devices. The Engineer will develop schematics, parts lists, and specify electrical hardware in support of the TEVET SDU systems.

Detailed Tasks, Duties, Responsibilities:

The primary role of the Technician/Engineer is focused on providing technical expertise and support for TEVET Liberty SDI.

  1. RF Testing: Conduct a wide range of RF tests on modular SDI and related components and devices. These tests assess parameters like signal quality, power output, modulation, sensitivity, and frequency accuracy.
  2. Equipment Setup: Configure RF testing equipment, including spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, signal generators, oscilloscopes, and other specialized tools to perform accurate measurements.
  3. Testing and Measurement: Conduct various RF tests, such as signal quality, signal-to-noise ratio, power output, modulation, and sensitivity measurements, according to established test plans and procedures.
  4. Data Collection and Analysis: Record and document test results and data accurately. Analyze collected data to identify anomalies, trends, and deviations from expected performance.
  5. Troubleshooting: Identify and troubleshoot issues with testing equipment, RF components, and test setups. Collaborate with engineers to resolve technical problems
  6. Maintenance and Calibration: Perform routine maintenance and calibration of testing equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability of measurements.
  7. Documentation: Maintain detailed records of testing processes, equipment configurations, and test results. Create and update test procedures and documentation as needed.
  8. Quality Assurance: Assist in quality control and quality assurance processes.
  9. Collaboration: Collaborate closely with engineers, designers, and other team members to support product development, resolve technical challenges, and provide feedback on RF performance.
  10. Safety: Follow safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment. Adhere to industry standards and best practices for RF testing.

Work Environment Characteristics: On-site at TEVET Headquarters in Greeneville, TN.

Work Hours: Standard work hours.

Travel Requirements: The position requires minimal travel requirements. The position may participate in field testing and validation of TEVET's Software-Defined Instrument product line that may include test setup, testing, gathering data, and analyzing performance.

Physical Demands

The physical demands working on-site at TEVET Headquarters can vary depending on the specific job tasks.

  1. Lifting and Carrying: may need to lift and carry equipment, tools, and components, which can vary in weight. This could include items such as RF testing equipment, cables, and other hardware.
  2. Standing and Walking: will work in the TEVET Systems Integration Laboratory (SIL) or field setting where the RF Technician may need to stand or walk for extended periods while assembling test systems, setting up and conducting tests, maintaining equipment, or troubleshooting.
  3. Manual Dexterity: Precise and intricate work is often required in RF testing and measurement. Candidate must have good manual dexterity to connect cables, adjust equipment settings, and perform fine-tuned adjustments.
  4. Bending and Kneeling: Candidate may need to bend, kneel, or crouch when accessing test equipment, making connections, or troubleshooting.
  5. Sitting: While some tasks involve standing or moving, may also spend time sitting at a workbench or computer to analyze data, document results, or design test procedures.
  6. Repetitive Motions: may perform repetitive tasks, such as making measurements, calibrating equipment, or testing multiple components. This may require steady hand-eye coordination.
  7. Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Depending on the work environment, may need to wear safety gear such as gloves, safety glasses, ear protection, or radiation shielding, which can affect comfort and mobility.
  8. Travel: In some cases, may be required to travel to various locations, including field sites or customer premises, which can involve physical demands associated with transportation, such as driving or carrying equipment.

Education/Experience/Knowledge

Required:

Education:

  • Electrical Technician: Associate of science (AS) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering Technology. In lieu of AS degree military service with a Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) in a related electronics and electrical position (i.e. radio and communication systems, test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE) support specialist, or RADAR support specialist) is acceptable.
  • Junior Electrical Engineer: Bachelor of science (BS) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

Experience:

  • Technician Minimum of 5+ years relevant experience
  • Junior Engineer Minimum of 2 years relevant experience

Preferred:

  3. Programming and Automation: Demonstrated knowledge in one or more programming languages/environments such as LabVIEW, Python, C/C++, C#, MATLAB, and/or TestStand for automation of test procedures, data analysis, and instrument control.
