About the job

The SAS/ACCESS team provides data access to different data sources so our customers can make better decisions faster. These interfaces are out-of-the-box solutions that provide enterprise data access and integration between SAS and third-party databases. SAS/ACCESS interfaces enable SAS solutions to read, write, and update data no matter what native databases or platforms are being used.

As a Senior Software Developer you will:

    You will work with top industry software developers in a highly collaborative environment and will interact with many different teams across different areas.

Role Competencies:

  • You will be responsible for designing and developing high quality, testable and scalable software solutions within established timelines while adhering to R&D best practices and processes, and actively involving other project stakeholders (e.g., managers, developers, product managers) to ensure implementation satisfies functional requirements and is consistent with established R&D standards.
  • You will participate in project scoping and scheduling; track progress of individual tasks and alert stakeholders of issues blocking or preventing completion of task, as well as mentoring and supporting more junior team members to impulse the team forward and foster a learning environment for everyone.
  • You will be expected to ensure quality through functional, unit and performance testing; work closely with testing team members by providing thorough reviews of the test plan and communicate when updates to the plan should be made to cover code changes related to enhancements, redesigns and/or bug fixes.
  • Maintain accountability for the entire life cycle of the code including support for both internal and external consumers.
  • In collaboration with technical writers, you will create appropriate level of design and technical documentation that satisfies both internal and external consumers

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related quantitative field.
  • 8+ years of experience as a developer on large software projects.
  • Strong programming skills and experience in C programming language.
  • Strong knowledge and experience SQL language.
  • Knowledge of general SAS architecture and language.
  • Knowledge of different target third party databases (e.g., MSSQL, Hadoop, Teradata).
  • Knowledge of Access engine and driver architecture.
  • Strong understanding of software development tools, methodologies, and principles.
  • Strong understanding of Jenkins
  • Effective communication and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with collaboration tools such as Jira and Confluence.
  • Experience using CVS, Gerrit, Git, or GitHub for source code management and code review.
  • Experience with integration, regression, and unit testing.
  • An equivalent combination of related education, training and experience may be considered in place of the above qualifications.

Preferred qualifications

  • Query tuning and optimization including specific experience troubleshooting performance issues within data bases.
  • Experience working with Jira, agile methodology.
  • Understanding of SAS products, data structures and programming technologies.
  • Experience with Linux/Unix systems.
  • Java experience
  • SAS Certified professional.
  • Some Python experience.
