Job Summary


The Principal Systems Software Engineer will be a member of a cross-functional core team, responsible for leading and supporting systems software engineering tasks.

They will serve as a technical lead on complex product development projects for the Liberty Automated Test Systems and Software Defined Instruments. This person will be responsible for leading the design and development of novel integrated solutions for TEVET's rapidly growing and evolving systems integration portfolio.

The Principal Systems Software Engineer will play a pivotal role in ensuring the highest standards of quality, precision, and compliance with AS9100D or ISO 9001:2015 quality management systems.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for completing system software engineering activities, from early phase development to market release.
  • Design or support the development of systems software architecture aligned with business and customer needs.
  • Execute multiple systems software engineering activities throughout the product development life cycle.
  • Apply critical thinking skills to solve complex software interaction problems.
  • Provide expertise in multiple roles in the product development life cycle, showcasing deep knowledge of system functionality.
  • Advise the project management team on key software product risk/benefit trade-offs.
  • Influence cross-functional peers to make timely decisions and recommendations for project success.
  • Represent the Engineering organization as the prime technical contact for assigned features, tools, or subject matters.
  • Provide input for submissions to regulatory bodies and governmental agencies.
  • Define hardware and software interface requirements between systems and maintaining traceability of requirements documentation.
  • Manage changes to interfaces during development and throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Ensure configuration compatibility through the product lifecycle.

Education and Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with a concentration on RF electronics.
  • At least 10+ years relevant experience
  • Must be U.S. citizen. Proof of citizenship will be required at hire.

Preferred:

  • Master's Degree preferred.
  • Active Secret clearance or the ability to obtain one is highly preferred.
  • At least 15+ years relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Required:

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of software engineering principles, and requirements management.
  • Ability to lead teams through a structured approach to solving complex technical problems.
  • Experience in software development, customer interaction, verification of software requirements, and validation of customer needs/design requirements.
  • Understanding and experience in the design, development, and testing of software-based systems.
  • Systems engineering experience and knowledge necessary to perform requirements analysis, derivation, and allocation, and translate requirements to viable concepts design solutions within applicable constraints.
  • Experience and knowledge of computer systems and processors, logic devices, interfaces, and high-level understanding of operating systems.
  • Experience developing architecture concepts and evaluating alternatives.
  • Familiarity with developing Test Methods and Test Equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing automated test hardware and software.
  • Experience and reverse engineered the customer test and calibration procedure.
  • Develop test strategies, design interface hardware, and integration of automated test programs.
  • Knowledge of RADAR component testing including Antenna and Receiver/Exciter subsystems.
  • Experience with industry-based standards, including AS9100D or ISO 9001:2015.

Preferred:

  • Experience conducting simulations, mathematical analysis and/or system interaction analysis.
  • Experience with leading direct DoD or Aerospace & Defense projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, judgment, decision-making, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to build strong relationships across the organization and with external stakeholders.
  • Experience developing engineering research and trade studies.
  • Test plans, test strategies, apparatus, and equipment development experience.
  • Experience developing test system software architectures.
  • Exposure to hardware/software integration.
  • Leadership and mentoring of less experienced engineers.

Equipment Proficiency

  • Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook.
  • Programming Languages: MATLAB, LabVIEW, TestStand, LabWindows/CVI, .NET C# and C/C++.
  • Engineering Computer Aided Design Tools: AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical, OrCAD Schematic Capture & PCB Layout
