Overview

The Department of Radiation Oncology at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is seeking two motivated candidates to join the clinical physics section. This position will provide all aspects of radiation therapy patient and equipment related planning and quality assurance.

Department of Radiation Oncology is a full-service department dedicated to clinical research and treatment. With the mission of providing expert and compassionate clinical care, our department houses the world's first proton therapy center dedicated solely to the treatment of children. The proton center is equipped with two gantry rooms and a fixed beam room. Each room has dedicated pencil beam scanning nozzles, robotic patient positioning, and cone-beam CT. The department has two linear accelerators used for photon therapy and multiple imaging platforms for treatment planning and on-treatment evaluation. Imaging platforms include a dual-layer spectral CT, digital PET-CT, and state of the art 1.5T and 3.0T MR systems. The department supports multiple treatment planning and image-processing systems.

The clinical physics section is comprised of 6 physicists, 4 dosimetrists, 2 medical physics assistants, and an accelerator engineer. The team is responsible for planning radiation therapy for about 300 pediatric patients each year.

Responsibilities

1. Performs assigned physics duties to ensure the delivery of accurate doses to pediatric patients
2. Participates in development and implementation of policies and procedures to facilitate accurate and safe radiation delivery.
3. Provides and supports learning needs through educational activities that promote continuous improvement and compliance with patient care standards.
4. Participates in budget preparation and equipment specifications
5. Organizes and documents all physics records to ensure accurate and timely performance of procedures.
6. Participates in departmental quality improvement/control activities
7. Assists with the orientation and training of new staff.
8. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed to meet the goals and objectives of the department and the organization.
9. Maintains regular and predictable attendance.


Minimum Education

MS or PhD in Physical Sciences required.


Minimum Experience

Four (4) years of experience with MS in Physics

Completion of Part II of the American Board of Radiology Exam preferred
