Job Description:

Join the Campus Recreation and Wellness team as a post baccalaureate intern and gain valuable skills and experiences working in the Sports, Recreation, Fitness Center (SuRF). This position offers the opportunity to create a vibrant community for students to engage with intramurals and club sports, fitness, and wellness. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Assist the Director of Campus Recreation with management of general operations, programs, and services offered via the SuRF.
  • Assist the Assistant Director with the overall supervision of Intramural & Club Sports programs and activities
  • Assess the recreational needs of students and assist with the development of creative programs to meet those needs; these programs include but are not limited to fitness and/or wellness classes, intramural activities, virtual programming, etc.
  • Create and implement imaginative marketing techniques to promote recreational programs
  • Assist in the general maintenance and cleaning of the SuRF facility and its equipment
  • Assess patrons' feedback and needs, evaluate current programs, and provide effective customer service regarding patron problems, inquiries, and complaints
  • Supervise student employees and participate in their hiring, development, and evaluation
  • Provide weekend and evening coverage at the SuRF Center when student employees are unavailable
  • Other duties as assigned


Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Health & Physical Education, Exercise Science, Athletic Training, or a related field is preferable. Applicants who are currently pursuing a degree will also be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working within a Campus Recreation department
  • Experience with social media marketing and promotions including virtual programming and outreach
  • An understanding and working knowledge of cardiovascular and weight training equipment
  • Willing to work evenings and weekends
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral skills, ability to work independently and on a team
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Good organization skills and attention to detail
  • Certifications in First Aid, CPR, and Automatic Emergency Defibrillator (AED)


Additional Information:

The compensation for this position is $12.00 per hour at an (estimated) 20 hours per week.

The anticipated start date for this position is August 15, 2022 and will end on March 24, 2023.
