Charlene Boyd is an administrator and has been with Providence for over 30 years. Under Charlene’s leadership, The Mount has received numerous architectural and programming awards for innovation in “culture change.” Charlene received the 2003 Midcareer Award from the Catholic Health Association. She is former president and a founding board member of the Pioneer Network, a national organization dedicated to making fundamental changes in values and practices to create a culture of aging that is life-affirming, satisfying, humane and meaningful.

Charlene was instrumental in the development and creation of the child care program, the Intergenerational Learning Center (ILC) at Providence Mount St. Vincent. It opened in 1991 with one class and 12 children. Charlene’s oldest son was one of the first babies enrolled in the ILC.

Providence Mount St. Vincent is a multi-generational community for several populations that vary greatly in age and description. First, it is a home for almost 400 older adults who need some assistance with their daily living or they need 24-hour care. They reside in either assisted living apartments or skilled nursing “neighborhoods,” as they are called. In addition, The Mount, is “home away from home” to 125 children enrolled in our child care center (the Intergenerational Learning Center which is open to the community as well as employees).
