YWCA METROPOLITAN CHICAGO SEXUAL VIOLENCE SUPPORT SERVICES CLINICAL PROGRAMSUBURBAN CHICAGO CLINICAL PROGRAM INTERNSHIP

The YWCA Metropolitan Chicago is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. The Clinical Program Suburban Chicago is part of the Sexual Violence Support Services (SVSS) of the YWCA. The Clinical Program Suburban Chicago provides crisis counseling and long-term individual, family, and group therapy to survivors of sexual abuse and their non-offending significant others across the lifespan (ages 3+). The program operates out of our Addison location. All services are confidential and free to clients. The program accepts interns from Masters level Social Work, Counseling, and Expressive Therapy programs (final year placements). The Clinical Program Suburban Chicago strives to have a culturally and ethnically diverse professional staff to best meet the needs of clients. Ideal candidates should be aware of cultural considerations and enjoy working with children and families. Counseling services are available in English and Spanish; therefore, bilingual Spanish speaking interns are highly encouraged to apply.

This position will require documented proof of full COVID-19 vaccination. Interns will be required to provide proof of vaccination prior to start date.

Intern Responsibilities:

  • Manage a caseload of 8-10 individual cases. (dependent on client availability)
  • Co-facilitate one to two therapy groups and/or client workshops.
  • Provide telephone crisis intervention, information, and referrals as needed.
  • Attend a required 40-hour Sexual Assault Crisis Intervention training prior to, or at the beginning of, the internship.
  • Participate in and/or create projects based on agency need and intern interest.
  • Participate in monthly team meetings and case consultations.
  • Present at least one case in case consultation during the internship.
  • Participate in Sexual Assault Awareness Month activities.

Internship Requirements:

  • Commit to internship from mid-August to end of June.
  • Commit to 20 hours/week with two weekday evenings until 8pm.
  • Weekly 1.5-hour individual reflective supervision conducted by a licensed clinician.
  • Ability to work independently when appropriate, with ongoing supervision.
  • Attendance at monthly Team Meetings on the first Friday of the month are required.

Internship Opportunities:

  • Develop personal use of a victim/client-centered approach.
  • Learn relational/psychodynamic and trauma therapy approaches in individual supervision and will have exposure to other therapists approaches in group consultation meetings.
  • Access to the YWCAs library and other reading materials and additional trainings. (as available)
  • Opportunity to participate in other clinical and learning experiences. (i.e. intake line, Chicago Rape Crisis Hotline) [as available]
